A country-made laburnum two-drawer writing table, c.1840, with frieze and dummy drawers, the underside inscribed in pen `Anne Simcoe`, `Hembrow fecit of Wolford Laburnum`, 89cm wide, 46cm deep, 66cm high. Anne Simcoe, born 1800 at Wolford, was the youngest daughter of John Graves Simcoe and Elizabeth Posthuma Gwillim. John Graves Simcoe achieved notoriety as the first Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada between 1791 and 1796. During this time, he founded modern day Toronto.
